John Moniz, Executive Director

JOHN MONIZJohn Moniz recently joined Providence House as our Executive Director.  John brings with him an extensive background with over 20 years of healthcare industry expertise.  After a diverse set of experiences working with older adults, John started his career as a Business Director at Atria Senior Living.  He continued to build his career as a Regional Business Director for Atria’s communities throughout RI, CT, and NY, followed by his position as National Compliance Manager.  For the last 10 years, John has earned the respect of residents, families, and professionals as an Executive Director at communities in Cambridge and Brookline.  John believes in programs that create positive emotions, such as programs in expressive arts, music, mindfulness, physical fitness, educational and culinary arts.  This lead him to present at “The Creative Age: Global Perspectives on Creativity and Aging”, an International Conference at Washington D.C. in 2016.  John has been the recipient of the Executive Director Award, and Program Innovation Award, presented by the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (MASS-ALA). He also received the Dr. Jalna Perry LGBT Award presented by Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services.

In addition to his role as an Executive Director, John has been involved as an Executive Board Member of the Visiting Nurse Community Care, a not-for-profit home care agency. He also is a Board Member of The Skating Club of Boston in Brighton, MA.  He is an active participant of MASS-ALA and involved in the Alzheimer’s Association.  He is passionate about building relationships and partnerships that can impact our residents, families, friends, and partners.  When John is not at Providence House, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cooking, sports, and is very involved with U.S. Figure Skating.

 

Pam Hennessey, Director of Resident Services

PAM HENNESSEYPam is an integral part of the Providence House team as Director of Resident Services.  Her career in nursing spans over 45 years, in many different capacities.  Pam’s experience includes positions in home care, as a school nurse, long-term care and teaching adults to become Home Health Aides and Certified Nurse’s Aides. For the past 23 years, Pam’s positions have been in assisted living communities.  She has managed the health and wellness of all the residents at Providence House, as well as the nursing staff and aides, since we opened in 2005.  When Pam is not working, her favorite place to spend time is on the beach.  Pam is married and has 2 grown children, 2 grandchildren and one grand dog!  She enjoys spending time with family and friends, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.  In 2017, Pam was a recipient of the Worldwide Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Professional Dedication and Career Longevity.

 

Janice Skelley – Director of Admissions and Marketing

JANICE SKELLEYJanice joined Providence House in 2016 as the Director of Admissions and Marketing.  Her initial career was in the Telecommunications industry where she held various positions in Customer Training, as a Project Manager and eventually as an Account Executive. Each of her positions required her to develop relationships and work closely with people to achieve common goals. After spending several years as a primary caregiver for her mother who had dementia, Janice combined her relationship building skills with her passion to work with older adults.  She has since spent the last 14 years assisting families and their loved ones to navigate the life changing process of moving from home to independent living, assisted living, as well as to memory care communities.  Janice is an advocate for older adults, but especially for those with various forms of dementia.  In her spare time, Janice enjoys spending time with family, traveling, kayaking, golfing and learning the art of baking bread!    

 

Katie Krupka

KATIE KRUPKAKatie is the Business Office Director of Providence House.  She joined our community in 2009, starting as the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Coordinator and quickly rose to the position of Business Office Manager, and eventually Business Office Director. Katie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management from Champlain College, and she will soon complete her Master’s in Gerontology, the Management of Aging Services, from UMass Boston. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Highland Valley Elder Services in Florence, MA . She has had a passion to work with the aging population since she was young, and loves hearing stories and spending time with the residents, families and staff at Providence House.  Katie lives in western MA with her husband Eric, and two young sons, Nolan and Liam. In her spare time, Katie loves to travel and entertain family and friends.

 

Cara Kelley, Beechwood Program Director

CARA KELLEYCara Kelley is the Program Director of the Beechwood Program, our dedicated memory care unit.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Bridgewater State University, and her Masters of Education at Curry College.  Cara is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner.  After graduation, Cara started working for Welch Senior Living, the organization that manages Providence House.  Cara held various positions including Activities Director, as well as Adult Day Health Program Director.  Cara transferred to Providence House when it opened in 2005.  She was appointed to Director of the Beechwood memory care unit.  Cara now has over 15 years of experience working with people who have various forms of dementia.  She shares her knowledge with her team, and guides them to ensure a wonderful quality of life for those residents needing special care.  Cara is married and is the proud mother of three school-aged children.  When not at work Cara is very active with all of her children’s extra-curricular activities.

 

Mark Creary, Director of Dining Services

MARK CREARYMark was originally from Jamaica.  He has both education and experience in the business world working as a Chief Finance Clerk for several years. Since 2008, Mark has worked in several health care communities.  His experience spans various positions, starting as a server, moving up to Dining Room Manager.  His success warranted a promotion to Food Services Director, which he has mastered over several years.   Mark is certified in both Servsafe and Allergen Awareness.  Mark achieved his diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management and has had the pleasure of working with outstanding teams of accomplished chefs and cooks, as well as dependable servers and utility staff.  “The best part of my job is making the residents happy when they come to the dining room for their meals.”   When Mark isn’t managing all the aspects of providing delicious meals for 100 residents, three times a day, he enjoys cooking, fishing, sports of all kinds, keeping up with current events and most of all spending time with his family.

 

Sean Whyne, Facilities Director

SEAN WHYNESean Whyne, Facilities Director, was originally born in Jamaica, and moved to the United States in 2000 at the age of seventeen.  Sean graduated from South Boston High School, and attended Rets Technical Center, (now formally known as Kaplan University), where he received his certification in HVAC.  Sean started his career at Providence House 12 years ago as a maintenance assistant.  In June of 2017, Sean was promoted to Facilities Director.  Sean and his team work diligently to meet all of our residents’ needs regarding maintenance, housekeeping and laundry.  Sean is responsible for all aspects of building operations, including inspections, maintenance and meeting safety standards.  When Sean isn’t working at Providence House, he enjoys music, spending time with his family and shopping for everything!

 

Jennifer Pernock-Ellis, Activities Director

JENNIFER PERNOCK-ELLISJenn earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Bridgewater State University.  Jenn worked in another assisted living community in the Activities Department before joining the Providence House team in 2015. Due to her enthusiasm and past experience, she was soon promoted to the position of Activities Director.  Jenn’s creativity and upbeat attitude are key to generating a robust schedule of activities, entertainment and socialization for our residents.  Jenn has been active since age 8 in community theater, both on stage and behind the scenes.  Her theatre experience has become infectious at Providence House as our residents partake in murder mystery productions.  Jenn is constantly looking for new ideas and believes that just because residents have entered a new chapter in their lives, they shouldn’t be discouraged from trying or learning something new every day.  Jenn shares her home with her new husband Joe and their two cats.  In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, sewing and spending time with family and friends.

 

Gordon Szerlip – Marketing Coordinator

GORDON SZERLIPGordon spent 35 years in the Financial Services industry.  After graduating from Emerson College in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Speech, he went on to a successful career on Wall Street as a professional trader, both in New York and Boston. He had spent the last 10 years of his career in finance, servicing the senior markets by helping them secure their retirement years.  Gordon moved on to his “encore career” in senior services by joining the Providence House team as the Marketing Coordinator.  Having developed a passion for the senior community, Gordon began a new journey educating and enlightening both seniors and professionals in the senior services industry as well as in healthcare.  Gordon is currently an active member of the Newton Council on Aging and a member of the NCal Advisory Board, (National Center for Assisted Living), as well as a Champion of the Dementia Friend Program. Gordon is an empty-nester in Newton with his wife Margaret, and continues to live vicariously through his two adult children, Daniel and Eve Szerlip.

 

Colleen Mullaney, Tax Credit Specialist

COLLEEN MULLANEYColleen Mullaney is the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Specialist for Providence House.  In other words, Colleen manages all of the applications and certifications for our residents who are residing in income restricted apartments.  Colleen graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, in 2017.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies.  Throughout her time in Memphis, her primary interest was in the field of affordable housing.  Colleen joined the team at Providence House in July of 2018.  Her role is pivotal in the success of our affordable assisted living programs.  In her free time, Colleen likes to read, watch movies and shop!  She has really enjoyed working with the senior population and getting to know the staff and residents as well.
