Meet Our Team

An assisted living community is only as good as its team. We’re proud to say we have a pretty great one.

Charles James- Executive Director

Charles has specialized in the Senior Living Industry with over 25 years of experience. His extensive background includes almost every aspect of the senior living industry, primarily as Executive Director at communities in the United States. He is a licensed nursing professional in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Georgia, and a licensed Assisted Living Administrator in the state of Florida.

Charles understands the importance of building long lasting and trusting relationships with residents, families and partners.

His true desire is to enhance a positive “home” experience in the senior population.

Erin Koenig- Resident Care Director

Erin is very excited to be joining the Providence House Team!  She is a Massachusetts native and started her career in nursing over 10 years ago.  Her passion has always been caring for others and particularly older adults.

As a child, she spent many weekends accompanying her grandmother to a local skilled nursing facility where she volunteered. Erin has many fond memories of those days and they have influenced her pursuit of a career in assisted living.

Erin shares her home with her husband Steven and 2 children, Emilia and Owen. They love spending time together on the beaches of Maine whenever possible, even during the offseason.

Janice Skelley- Director of Admissions and Marketing

JANICE SKELLEYJanice joined Providence House in 2016 as the Director of Admissions and Marketing.  Her initial career was in the Telecommunications industry where she held various positions in Customer Training, as a Project Manager and eventually as an Account Executive. Each of her positions required her to develop relationships and work closely with people to achieve common goals.

After spending several years as a primary caregiver for her mother who had dementia, Janice combined her relationship building skills with her passion to work with older adults.  She has since spent the last 14 years assisting families and their loved ones to navigate the life changing process of moving from home to independent living, assisted living, as well as to memory care communities.  Janice is an advocate for older adults, but especially for those with various forms of dementia.  In her spare time, Janice enjoys spending time with family, traveling, kayaking, golfing and learning the art of baking bread!    

Daniela Barresi- Beechwood Memory Care Director

Daniela graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She was first employed with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office as a Victim/Witness Advocate and worked with victims and witnesses of all age ranges. Daniela then worked as an Elder Protective Service Worker for several years and developed a passion for working with elders dealing with various forms of dementia. Daniela spent some of her career employed as a Case Manager with Visiting Angels in Newton, where she managed her client’s home care, and became a Certified Dementia Practitioner. She has experience as a Program Assistant at an assisted living facility, working in memory care.  Daniela enjoys engaging and enriching the lives of the residents, as well as providing peace of mind to family members that their loved ones are being well cared for. In her spare time, Daniela enjoys art, reading, dancing and spending time with her family.

Katie Krupka- Business Office Director

KATIE KRUPKAKatie is the Business Office Director of Providence House.  She joined our community in 2009, starting as the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Coordinator and quickly rose to the position of Business Office Manager, and eventually Business Office Director.

Katie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management from Champlain College, and she will soon complete her Master’s in Gerontology, the Management of Aging Services, from UMass Boston. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Highland Valley Elder Services in Florence, MA .

She has had a passion to work with the aging population since she was young, and loves hearing stories and spending time with the residents, families and staff at Providence House.  Katie lives in western MA with her husband Eric, and two young sons, Nolan and Liam. In her spare time, Katie loves to travel and entertain family and friends.

Mark Creary- Director of Dining Services

MARK CREARYMark was originally from Jamaica.  He has both education and experience in the business world working as a Chief Finance Clerk for several years. Since 2008, Mark has worked in several health care communities.  His experience spans various positions, starting as a server, moving up to Dining Room Manager.  His success warranted a promotion to Food Services Director, which he has mastered over several years.

Mark is certified in both Servsafe and Allergen Awareness.  Mark achieved his diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management and has had the pleasure of working with outstanding teams of accomplished chefs and cooks, as well as dependable servers and utility staff.  “The best part of my job is making the residents happy when they come to the dining room for their meals.”

When Mark isn’t managing all the aspects of providing delicious meals for 100 residents, three times a day, he enjoys cooking, fishing, sports of all kinds, keeping up with current events and most of all spending time with his family.

Brian Abamelik- Facilities Director

Brian recently joined Providence House as the Facilities Director.  For the past six years, he worked for a transportation company doing a variety of office and maintenance work.  He has a master’s degree in Business Management.

Brian was born in Ukraine and is fluent in Russian and English.  He is very close to his family and has had several family members living in assisted living communities throughout the Boston area.  He frequently visits them and is well-versed on the needs of residents living in assisted living communities.

Brian was raised in the Brighton area and now resides in Brookline.  In his spare time, he likes to travel and go to the gym.

Gordon Szerlip- Marketing Coordinator

GORDON SZERLIPGordon spent 35 years in the Financial Services industry.  After graduating from Emerson College in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Speech, he went on to a successful career on Wall Street as a professional trader, both in New York and Boston. He had spent the last 10 years of his career in finance, servicing the senior markets by helping them secure their retirement years.

Gordon moved on to his “encore career” in senior services by joining the Providence House team as the Marketing Coordinator.  Having developed a passion for the senior community, Gordon began a new journey educating and enlightening both seniors and professionals in the senior services industry as well as in healthcare.

Gordon is currently an active member of the Newton Council on Aging and a member of the NCal Advisory Board, (National Center for Assisted Living), as well as a Champion of the Dementia Friend Program. Gordon is an empty-nester in Newton with his wife Margaret, and continues to live vicariously through his two adult children, Daniel and Eve Szerlip.

Susan Gustin – Engagement Director

Susan is an enthusiastic and highly creative marketing and public relations professional with over 20 years’ experience in the real estate, property management and, the senior living industry.  She is an effective leader with excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, enhanced with a collaborative team spirit.

Susan is responsible for leading the daily programming at Providence House; introducing a variety of activities, coordinating resources and meeting the comprehensive needs and interests of all residents.  She effectively coordinates programs that enrich our community members’ lives while promoting their health and safety; seeing that they thrive in every season of life.  Susan is a member of The Massachusetts Council of Activity Professionals (MassCAP), participating in educational opportunities and exchanging ideas with colleagues in the senior living and health care profession.

Susan lives on the South Shore with her husband Bill.  Her greatest achievement…her two children, Tara and Matthew and her two beautiful granddaughters, Paige and Lucy.  She enjoys gardening, decorating and loves to travel.

Colleen Mullaney- Tax Credit Specialist

COLLEEN MULLANEYColleen Mullaney is the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Specialist for Providence House.  In other words, Colleen manages all of the applications and certifications for our residents who are residing in income restricted apartments.  Colleen graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, in 2017.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies.  Throughout her time in Memphis, her primary interest was in the field of affordable housing.

Colleen joined the team at Providence House in July of 2018.  Her role is pivotal in the success of our affordable assisted living programs.  In her free time, Colleen likes to read, watch movies and shop!  She has really enjoyed working with the senior population and getting to know the staff and residents as well.
